EXPERIENCE THE VARIETY OF MOBILITY

CARSHARING

Carsharing, preferably electric, is an important measure for local and global environment protection.

SCOOTER SHARING

Electric scooters are growing in popularity! They have been standing and riding around town for some time. Simply register via app, navigate intuitively and enjoy dolce vita on the street!

BIKE SHARING

Since Berlin's coverage of station-based and free-floating bicycle sharing has been significantly increased, many tourists and locals spontaneously use this classic of individual transport.

SHOPPING-TRANSPORT

Meanwhile, some neighbors have already had good experiences with LARS, the electric cargo bike.

It can transport 2-4 children as well as dogs with a maximum load up of 100 kg. Rent it now through our agent Michael Kujawski: +49 (0)176 96869157

INNOVATIONS

Whether it is Segways, which fly across town stabilized as if by magic, or innovative transport concepts for the urban man of today and tomorrow - engineers' imagination seems to know no limits! In the project NEUE MOBILITÄT BERLIN, you have the chance to get to know the developers personally.

WHAT DRIVES THE NEW MOBILITY BERLIN PROJECT?

OUR MOST IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS

WHY DO WE TAKE A STAND FOR MULTIMODAL MOBILITY IN THE CITY?

NEW MOBILITY BERLIN – THE INTRO-MOVIE

WHY HOLD ON TO JUST ONE OPTION IN A WORLD OF DIVERSITY?

What type of mobility offer suits you best?

Extensive surveys, public discussion sessions and workshops were carried out during the course of the project to find out what type of mobility offers are preferred by people and how user friendly these should be.
Results were directly used to generate measures for improved access to different mobility offers on the Mierendorff-ISLAND and the Klausenerplatz-Kiez pilot neighbourhoods. These are also applicable to other parts of Berlin.

CREATE YOUR PERSONAL MOBILITY MIX.

WE ARE COMMITTED TO CHANGE THROUGH CONTINUITY!

NEW MOBILIST

MARTIN BURTH (59), father of three
Klausenerplatz-Kiez
Owns an Opel as family car:
- Annual mileage: max. 8.000 km
- Main purpose: bulk purchases once a month

THE CHALLENGE

"If the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district sets up a carsharing parking spot within 50 meters of my apartment, I will deregister my car!"

APPROACH

In the fall of 2017, a new law on carsharing takes effect and allows municipalities to redesign parking spaces for alternative forms of use. Oliver Schruoffeneger, city district councillor for urban development, construction and environment in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, wants to reward those who get rid of their car (and many other neighbours) in a 1:1 trade with a carsharing parking lot.

NEW MOBILIST

ANDREA KASTENS-P. (49), mother of two
Klausenerplatz-Kiez/Mierendorff-Island
- Sold her family car
- Alternative means of transportation: bicycle, rental electric cargo bike
- Main purpose: way to work, transport her dog + small loads

THE CHALLENGE

"As an allotment holder on the Mierendorff-Island with a place of residence at the Sophie-Charlotte-Platz, I actually relieved two districts of when I sold my car. Now, to travel short distances I rent an electric cargo bike, which is provided as part of the project NEUE MOBILITÄT BERLIN (NMB). For weekend trips to Berlin's outskirts I use carsharing offers.

I WOULD LIKE A GREATER OFFER OF DIFFERENT TYPE OF VEHICLES SO THAT I CAN MAKE USE OF THEM ACCORDING TO MY NEEDS!"

APPROACH

Since May 2017, the research project "Distribute - green neighborhood supply chains for the city of tomorrow" has been running at Technical University (TU) Berlin, publicly sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Within the next three years, the steadily increasing freight transport should be shifted from trucks to electro cargo bikes in the two pilot neghborhoods "Mierendorff-ISLAND" and "Klausenerplatz-Kiez". When the vehicles are not used for deliveries, companies as well as individuals can rent them.

NEW MOBILIST

ROLF MIENKUS (49),  father of two
Mierendorff-Island
Got rid of his Ford Focus Tournament at the end of 2016:
- Annual mileage: max. 6000 km
- Main purpose: trips to Berlin's surrounding area, transporting paddle
boats, annual leave

THE CHALLENGE

"Without my own car I am more aware of my driving behavior. I am most likely making use of carsharing to transport heavy loads or to travel longer distances. Most of my everyday trips I do by bicycle or LARS, a rental electro cargo bike.

What is still missing is an app, through which I can spot, book and end rentals of any type of vehicle of all mobility service providers! "

APPROACH

To get an overview of most mobility services around you, it is worth taking a look at the VBB live map. Here you can track the movements of all public transport, regional and long-distance transport in Berlin and Brandenburg, as well as the availability of car and bike sharing. Parking lots including park & ride and taxis can also be conveniently located with the browser-based application.

For the actual rental of sharing vehicles, apps like Free2Move are of help. It allows you to register with several providers, book centrally and in certain cases also pay via the app.

OUR TEAM & PARTNERS

Mobile ideas for a changing society
The NMB project investigates the possibilities and limitations of local mobility.
Exemplary for Berlin, specific questions are raised on the Mierendorff-ISLAND and the Klausenerplatz-Kiez, in the Charlottenburg district:

• How do I move through my neighbourhood and across town as a youngster, professional or elderly person?
• What type of problems do we face and how can they be solved?
• Which kind and how much traffic do we want in our neighbourhood?
• What alternatives exist?
• Who can provide specific on-site support and how?
• How is mobility related to individual and public quality of life?

More urban quality of life
The Neue Mobilität Berlin (NMB) initiative’s ambition is to inspire local residents to add value to their own enironment through sustainable and innovative mobility concepts.
NMB strives to help inhabitants, professionals as well as other local actors to facilitate life through a more flexible mobility offers.

In the focus of the joint model project:
Encourage public debate on already existing future-oriented transport solutions for all people in the capital city.

Lead changing mobility behaviours
To recognise our habits and needs serves as an indicator for tomorrow’s means of transport:
• As a professional, will I have to rely on my own car in the future?
• How do I quickly and easily cope with everyday necessities as an elderly person
• How does my child safely get to school and across town during spare time?

Continuous technological progress expands the existing mobility offers allowing us to think about our mobility behavior:
• What mobility offers need to be offered to residents of the Mierendorff-ISLAND or the Klausenerplatz-Kiez to satisfy their individual mobility needs?

OUR PROJECT TEAM

Founded in 2016, the "Neue Mobilität Berlin" project is growing steadily. As a results, more and more stakeholders are joining forces to expand the already initial core team consisting of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office, insel-projekt.berlin UG, the Berlin Agency for Electromobility (eMO), the Center Technology and Society (ZTG/TU Berlin) and BMW Group Urban Mobility.
